The Peter Edwards Citizenship and Achievement Award
CITATION
Police Community Support Officer Chris Blanksby is based at Burton in the Trent Valley Division. In November 2008 Chris travelled to India to take part in a gruelling cycle ride covering 250 miles. In doing so he managed to raise £7,500 for the British Heart Foundation and other associated charities.
Chris is not an experienced cyclist and spent many hours of his own time training for this ride; fitting this in along side training and managing an under 9’s boys football team.
The trip was financed solely by Chris who organised and took part in a number of charitable events including a Royal Ascot day and a number of other sporting events.
This young man has showed a maturity and dedication above his years in organising these events and raising a considerable amount of money for his chosen charity.
From the planning stages to participation in the event has taken well over 12 months, Chris has given up a considerable amount of his own time training for and taking part in the ride, even using part of his annual leave entitlement to take part in this event.
The Chief Constable is delighted to invite Pam Edwards to present the ‘Peter Edwards Citizenship and Achievement Award to Chris Blanksby.
