The Peter Edwards Citizenship and Achievement Award
CITATION
Dawn Critchley was appointed by Staffordshire Police on 8th January 2001, as an operator in the Northern Area Control Room, based at Hanley, and joined Staffordshire Police Unison on 21st March 2001.
Dawn has always been a very active member of the union and on 20th February 2002 she became the Staffordshire Police Unison Women's Officer, whilst working within the Northern Area Control Room.
On 6th October 2003 she became the full-time Staffordshire Police Unison Asst Branch Secretary which she has continued to do until the present date, representing members and dealing with issues which arise within the Branch.
It would be very easy to list many instances where Dawn's skill and expertise have helped not only the members she has represented but also the organisation. Some of the areas that she has been prominent in include part time working, shift pattern negotiations and discipline investigations.
Dawn also works for non-union members as an active member of the Staffordshire Local Government Pension Scheme Committee as she pushes for the right for the member's representatives to have voting rights. It is her determination and the manner in which she works, always prepared to put her members first, that are recognised by this award.
